Method to reduce the emission of harmful gaseous substances in the flue gas of sintering plants, characterized in that between the sinter grid and the raw mixture which is to be sintered a layer of granular material of blast furnace charging materials, such as lump ore, pellets, sinter, blast furnace or LD-slag or mixtures thereof (treatment layer) is placed, that these materials are dampened with water before being deposited onto the sinter belt and the grain size of these materials is selected such that they largely remain in the screen residue on the screening taking place in the sintering plant and before the blast furnace and are charged into the blast furnace together with the finished product of the sintering plant.
