[origin: US4598564A] In profiling the surface of a metal strip, particularly pressed strips for use in double band presses, the pressed strip is provided with graduations on a surface outside of the surface to be profiled. The graduations on the strip correspond to graduations on a tool used to profile the strip surface. With the graduations on both strip and tool in register, synchronized movements of the strip and the tool is effected with the strip being rolled into surface contact with the profiling surface of the tool so that the profiling surface of the tool is reproduced on the strip.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Profilieren von Metallbändern (2), insbesondere von Preßbändern in Doppelbandpressen, das dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß man am Umfang des Preßbandes (2) außerhalb des zu profilierenden Teiles der Preßbandoberfläche eine Teilung vorsieht, die mit einer entsprechenden Teilung des Profilierwerkzeugs (3) in Eingriff steht und die, mit elektronischen oder mechanischen Mitteln ausgewertet, eine Synchronisierung von Werkzeug- und Werkstückabwälzung bei der Abbildung des Oberflächenprofils durch elektrothermisches, elektrochemisches oder umformendes Bearbeiten erlaubt. Dabei entspricht die Teilung des Preßbandumfanges einem ganzzahligen Vielfachen der Teilung des Werkzeugumfanges, sodaß der Anfang der Preßbandstruktur und ihr Ende ohne sichtbare Übergänge ineinander übergehen. Das Verfahren hat deshalb besondere Bedeutung, weil es die Profilierung von Preßbändern für Doppelbandpressen erlaubt, deren Länge abweichend von den Verhältnissen bei Walzen ein Mehrfaches üblicher Walzenumfänge beträgt und darüberhinaus nur mit großem Aufwand bestimmbar ist, weil die Länge während der Bearbeitungszeit beibehalten oder deren Änderung stetig gemessen oder beeinflußt werden muß.
