Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0041049A2] 1. A line circuit breaker for high breaking capacities, comprising a casing (1) of narrow construction, a contact system (6) in the form of a double-break system and having two movably disposed contact levers (11; 11') interconnected by toggle spring means (21; 56) and having contact members (12) at the ends remote from one another, stationary contact members (13) being associated therewith, and comprising a magnetic trip system (7), the magnet armature (30) of which acts on two adjacent ends of the contact levers (11; 11'), and comprising a thermal trip system, a manual actuating element and a latch operatively connected to the magnetic trip system (7), the thermal trip system and the manual actuating element, characterised in that the casing (1) consists of two halves (2, 5) having a common bottom wall (4) and each adapted to be closed by a cover (3), one half (2) containing the contact system (6) in its area adjacent the front of the circuit breaker, the magnetic trip system (7) centrally beneath the contact system (6), and a switching and arc chamber (8, 9) in each case on either side of the magnetic trip system (7), while the latch, an overcurrent trip system and the manual actuating element are disposed in the other half (5), and a coupling member (40; 59) passing through the common bottom wall (4) of the two halves (2, 5) mechanically connects the contact levers (11; 11') of the contact system (6) to the latch.
