Storage tray or storage crate (1) of sheet metal, more especially with a viewing opening, in which at least the transverse walls (10, 11) comprise a vertical wall surface and a stacking rim (16) attached to the top thereof, which rim is formed by a bead (19) and turned-over edges in one piece with the latter, and which comprises a substantially horizontal stacking surface (17) formed by the upper bead wall and a substantially vertical external surface (18) consisting of the turned-over edge and for receiving an additional storage tray or crate (1), a hollow section member (20) being formed externally on that part of the stacking rim (16) which forms the vertical external surface (18), which hollow section member comprises a wall section (22) obliquely of the tray or crate wall, is supported with a bent-over support section (23) and with a stiffening action against the tray or crate wall (10, 11) and is connected fast to the latter, for example, by being welded thereon, characterised in that the hollow section member (20) comprises a wall section (21) parallel to the edge forming the vertical boundary surface (18) of the stacking rim (16), which section (21) is extended approximately to the height of the bottom edge of the bead (19), and that the adjoining wall section (22) extending at an inclination to the tray or crate wall (10, 11) is led from the region of the bottom edge of the bead (19) until against the vertical wall surface and at this position merges into the bent-over support section (23) which extends parallel to the vertical wall surface.
