Abstract (en)
A computer-controlled machine for progressively roughing marginal portions of shoe bottoms comprises a tool support arm [30], on which two rotary roughing brushes [168] are carried side-by-side, and a shoe sopport [18] between which and the arm [30] relative movement takes place lengthwise, widthwise and heightwise of the shoe bottom. The relative lengthwise movement is fore-and-aft, one of the tools [168] operating on the shoe bottom during forward movement, and the other [168] during rearward movement. For effecting relative movement in three dimensions numerically controlled motors [144, 84, 122] are used. Also a further motor [232] controls tilting of the brushes [168] about a transverse axis passing through their operating surfaces. Grinding means [630] is also provided, comprising grinding stones [630] rotating in such a manner that the operative surfaces thereof are moving in the same direction as the brush surface portions being ground, but at significantly greater speed.
