[origin: US4401023A] A worm press, especially for pressing vegetable matter, e.g. in the pressing of oil from oil-bearing seeds and fruits, comprises a worm having a plurality of worm sections and a housing within which the worm rotates and which is formed with rings defining axially spaced constrictions for the pressed mass between the worm sections. The worm has annular frustoconical shoulders juxtaposed with frustoconical flanks of the respective rings so that the flanks of each ring and shoulder define a respective constriction which is of a width adjustable by relative axial displacement of the worm and the housing, the rings being fixed in the housing and the shoulders being fixed on the worm.

Bei einer Schneckenpresse zur Behandlung von Preßgut in mehreren aufeinanderfolgenden Abschnitten mit mindestens einer Drossel, deren konischer Drosselring im Pressenmantel gegenüber einem konischen Drosselbund auf der Schnecke zur Änderung der Einschnürung des Durchtrittsquerschnitts für das Preßgut zwischen zwei Abschnitten axial verschiebbar ist, soll die Abdichtungsstelle zwischen den verschlieblichen Teilen aus dem mit hohem Druck beaufschlagten Preßraum verlegt werden, um ein Übertreten von Preßgut zu vermeiden. Das ist dadurch erreicht, daß der Pressenmantel (1) und die Schnecke (3) gegeneinander verschieblich sind, während sowohl der Drosselring (9) im Pressenmantel (1) als auch der Drosselbund (8) auf der Schnecke (3) unverschieblich befestigt sind. Die erforderliche Abdichtung zwischen Schnecke (3) und Pressenmantel (1) liegt am Pressenanfang vor der Preßguteingabe in einem Bereich, der drucklos ist.
