Apparatus for covering cores for transformers and choke coils with a plurality of single metal sheets (10) one for each layer and with intersection lines which are mutually offset from layer to layer and overlap one another, the individual metal sheets (10) being mechanically guided and supported at least during the application of the core characterized in that - - at least two corners of their contour, which corners preferably enclose an acute angle, all the single metal sheets (10) are guided in verically arranged grooves (15) having a prismatic cross-section, in guide bars (1), all the single metal sheets (10) being free from special apertures and recesses provided for mechanical guidance ; - the guide bars (1) are continuously adjustable in the vertical direction ; - in the horizontal direction, the guide bars (1) can be adjusted in steps corresponding to half the width of the metal sheets, apart from a continuous fine adjustement (5) ; and - the setting of the guide bars (1) is indicated in each case.
