[origin: US4400875A] In a dry-shaving apparatus which is adapted to be connected to an a.c. source and which comprises at least one reciprocating cutter, there is provided a self-starting single-phase synchronous motor for driving the cutter. Via at least one drive mechanism, which couples the drive spindle of the motor to the cutter and which converts the rotary movement of the drive spindle into a reciprocating movement of the cutter, the cutter is made to occupy substantially one of the two extreme positions in its reciprocating movement in those positions of the rotor of the motor in which the driving torque has zero value.

Bei einem zum Anschluss an ein Wechselstromnetz bestimmten Trockenrasierapparat (1) mit mindestens einem hin- und hergehend antreibbaren Schneidmesser (13) ist zum Antreiben desselben ein selbstanlaufender Einphasensynchronmotor (19) vorgesehen. Hierbei wird über mindestens ein Getriebe (29) welches die Antriebswelle (23) des Motors mit dem Schneidmesser kuppelt und eine Umwandlung der rotierenden Bewegung der Antriebswelle in eine hin- und hergehende Bewegung des Schneidmessers bewirkt, jeweils bei jenen Lagen des Rotors (24) des Motors, in welchen das Antriebsmoment den Wert Null durchläuft, das Schneidmesser im wesentlichen in eine der beiden Extremlagen seiner hin- und hergehenden Bewegung gebracht.
