Hydraulic tensioning device (21) for tensioning saw blades (19) on a saw frame, said tensioning device (21) comprising at least one piston (39) capable of being actuated by a hydraulic fluid to tension the saw blade (19) and to keep it in tensioned position by the pressure in the hydraulic fluid, characterized in that the tensioning device comprises a body (31) having a width not being larger than the usual center-to-center-distance between two saw blades (19), in that the body (31) comprises means (23, 25) for attaching a saw blade (19) or a saw blade holder, and in that in the body (31), at least on one side of the means (23), at least one cylinder bore (37) for receiving the hydraulic piston (39) is provided, said cylinder bore (37) being connected to a pressure generator (57) located in the body (31).
