[origin: US4417958A] The anode effect which is necessary in the electrolytic cell can be extinguished after a short time if, immediately after it appears, fine granular salts are introduced together with an injection medium through a suitable channel into the electrolyte and under the anodes. These salts which are not harmful to the electrolytic process cause vigorous production of gases at the operating temperature of the cell. The channel for introducing the salts and the injection medium is usefully situated in the crust breaking chisel or a lance which can be lowered into the bath. The device comprises further a storage vessel for salts which has a closing facility which is activated via a closing piston, below that a combined measuring and injection chamber featuring an injection nozzle and a tube with by-pass connecting up to the injection chisel or lance.

Der für Elektrolysezellen notwendige Anodeneffekt kann nach kurzer Zeit wieder gelöscht werden, wenn unmittelbar nach dessen Auftreten feinkörnige Salze mit einem Druckmedium durch einen geeigneten Kanal (34, 58) in den schmelzflüssigen Elektrolyten (16) geführt und unter die Anoden (10) geschleudert werden. Die den Elektrolyseprozess nicht beeinträchtigenden Salze führen bei Arbeitstemperatur zu einer heftigen Gasentwicklung. Der das Druckmedium und die Salze zuführende Kanal ist zweckmässig im Brechmeissel (36) oder in einer absenkbaren Lanze (38) angeordnet. Die Vorrichtung umfasst weiter einem Vorratsbehälter (22) für Salze mit einem durch einen Schliesszylinder 24 betätigbaren Verschlussorgan 50, einen darunter angeordneten kombinierten Mess- und Blasbehälter (26) mit einer Blasdüse (52) und einen zum Blasmeissel (36) bzw. zur Lanze (58) führenden Verbindungsschlauch (30) mit einmündendem By-pass (31).
