Abstract (en)

An elastic support material, in particular a plastics film or a plastics-coated material, is covered on one or both sides with an optional adhesion-promoting layer, a thin metal layer, followed by an adhesion-promoting protective layer and finally a coating. To prevent accidents, such a wallpaper should ideally have virtually no transverse electrical conductivity. This object is achieved by various special manufacturing processes for the wallpaper. In a first process, the adhesion-promoting layer between the support material and the metal layer is a material which has hardened or is hardenable into a frangible layer and the layer arrangement is then mechanically deformed to break the hardened adhesion-promoting layer and hence to form cracks in the metal layer above. In another process, the adhesion-promoting protective layer on top of the metal layer is formed as a masking layer which forms a certain pattern, the metal layer is then subdivided in an etching process in accordance with this pattern into a multiplicity of island-like areas, and then finally the coating is applied. In a further process, the thin metal layer, optionally after the application of the protective layer but before the subsequent layers have been applied, is subdivided by mechanical treatment with brushes or combs into a multiplicity of areas. In a further suitable process, a mask is laid on top of the support material, the metal layer is vapour-deposited through the mask on to the support material in a structure which corresponds to the mask and then, after the mask has been removed, the adhesion-promoting protective layer and the coating are applied.
