[origin: EP0050171A1] A method of making a cement product comprises adding water, and if required, reinforcing material, into a cement and aggregate mixture containing 0 to 5% by weight of a calcium compound based on the amount of CaO relative to the weight of the cement, and kneading the whole carefully, moulding the keaded mixture under pressure into a desired shape, hydrating the moulded product to form a preliminarily hardened product, firing the preliminarily hardened product at a temperature of 650 to 950 DEG C, and hydrating the fired product. The high temperature firing process advantageously permits the smoking treatment of the product surface, and the application thereto of a glaze having a high melting point.
