Bei einem Matrixdrucker mit einem in Druckpässen bewegbaren Nadeldruckkopf, der sich in Druckstellung gegenüber einem zwischen Druckpässen bewegbaren Aufzeichnungsträger befindet, mit verstellbarem Mundstück, in dem die Nadeln spaltweise in Bohrungen geführt sind, ist die Grundstellung des Mundstücks für Schnellschrift und sind davon abweichende Stellungen gegebenenfalls in hin- und hergehenden Druckpässen für Schönschrift vorgesehen. Um bei einem derartigen Matrixdrucker den kleinsten Schritt der Papierbewegung nicht auf den halben Nadelabstand zu beziehen, weil es relativ schwierig ist, das Papier um derart kleine Abstände zu bewegen, ist vorgesehen, daß mit der Verstellung des Mundstücks (6; 6a, 6b) in Langen zwischen zwei in einer Nadelspalte (1) aufeinanderfolgenden Drucknadeln (2), d. h. mit einer mechanischen, feineren Einteilung der Matrix in Zeichenhöhe (3a) zugleich eine elektronische feinere Einteilung der Matrix in Zeichenbreite (3) verbunden ist, wobei das Verhältnis der Einteilung in Zeichenhöhe und in Zeichenbreite für Schnellschrift und für Schönschrift jeweils mindestens 0,4:1 beträgt oder größer ist.
