When curling the rim (2) of a cup (1) consisting of sheet material (paper cup) by means of a curling ring (17) pressed axially against the rim to be curled, friction is reduced by subjecting the curling ring to an alternating relative movement, in particular wobbling movement. In order to produce the wobbling movement, the curling ring is supported axially on an inclined, rotating face which can be produced by the bearing points of three rollers (13, 14). <IMAGE>

Beim Bördeln des Randes (2) eines Bechers (1) aus Folienmaterial (Papierbecher) mittels eines axial gegen den zu bördelnden Rand gepreßten Bördelrings (17) wird die Reibung dadurch vermindert, daß der Bördelring einer wechselnden Relativbewegung unterworfen wird, insbesondere einer Taumelbewegung. Zur Erzeugung der Taumelbewegung wird der Bördelring auf einer geneigten, rotierenden Fläche axial abstützt, die von den Anlagepunkten von drei Rollen (13, 14) gegeben sein kann.
