[origin: EP0053523A1] A cooking apparatus, preferably a combined miccrowave and electric heater oven, includes a cassette tape player system (18) for reproducing digital data recorded on a magnetic cassette tape (15). The digital data includes a cooking constant which is determined for each of a plurality of cooking operations. A gas sensor (42) is disposed in the oven for detecting the concentration of reducing gas generated from a foodstuff being cooked. A digital control system (29) calculates a reference level from the cooking constant. The reference level is compared with an output of the gas sensor (42) for developing a control signal to terminate cooking when the output reaches the reference level.
