[origin: EP0053586A2] A heated changer comprising a tubular stator, through which coolant is circulated, and a coaxial tubular rotor, through which a viscous liq. is passed between the stator and an external cooled jacket, is provided with a coaxial rectangular chassis carrying scraper blades to scour the outer face of the stator and the inner face of the rotor. Suitable for maintaining high heat transfer surface conditions in units passing solns. of polymers in hydrocarbon diluents, to inhibit build-up of superficial deposits. The chassis can rotate freely, being driven by hydrostatic drag from the rotor but slowed relative to the rotor by drag at the stator surface, so that the rotor face is also swept. Simpler than designs with positively driven scrapers. The chassis is supported from the opposite end of the unit to the stator. The liq. to be cooled enters and leaves via annular manifolds at opposite ends of the heat exchanger.
