Abstract (en)

A drum magazine has a housing (40) and three independently rotatable concentric sprocket members (42, 43, 44) each having a serration around its outer periphery to nest cartridges parallel to the housing axis. A torsion spring (46) rotatingly drives the inner sprocket member (44) and feed ramps (434, 441, 455, 455 min , 471, 471 min ) assist the cartridges in traversing from the sprocket members to the feed throat(41, 5) exit. Stops limit sprocket member rotation with respect to the housing or surrounding sprocket member. One (417) of the feed throat lips is pivotally biassed to act as a one way valve such that cartridges may be inserted into the housing transverse to the housing axis, but slid therefrom. <??>Latch means (447, 462) between outer sprocket member (42) and housing and intermediate (43) and outer sprocket member prevent rotation in a counter direction to the cartridge ejecting direction until the outer or intermediate sprocket is rotated in said counter direction a predetermined amount. The latch means serve also as a connector between the sprocket members in the ejecting direction by engagement with the nested cartridges only in a direction parallel to that axis. A last round stop actuator is arranged to travel with the cartridge pusher (47) and is spring biassed to extend outside the housing when the pusher is in its extreme end position in the feed throat.

The drum magazine for a gun has a housing (40) with a peripheral wall defining a circular cross section interior. A feed throat extends through the wall to release cartridges from the housing. At least two rotatable sprockets (42-44) have apertures (454,470) to allow cartridges to pass from the inner sprocket to the outer. The outer periphery of the sprockets each have serrations to nest the cartridges. A ramp can extend from the feed throat to scoop cartridges from the outer sprocket and a second can scoop them from the inner.
