1. Chopping device for comminuting combustible material, comprising a housing having a feed opening for the material to be broken up and an outlet opening for the comminuted material, and a rotating blade shaft (5) which has blades arranged in recesses (4) and secured by means of clamping wedges (6) and pressure plates (3) or blade retainers, which blades cooperate with at least one beating arm arranged at a distance from the shaft, characterised in that a) disposable blades (2) are used as blades, b) each disposable blade (2) is positively locked in a blade holder (1), a stepped recess (1e) or a corresponding stop being provided on the blade holder (1), c) each blade holder is formed such that the disposable blade (2) is pressed against the blade holder (1), and d) each blade holder (1) is formed such that it absorbs the mechanical load exerted on the disposable blade (2).

Bei Vorrichtungen zur Erzeugung von Brennspänen sind solche mit einer rotierenden Messerwelle besonders geeignet. Die Messerwellen erlauben eine hohe Aufnahme von Kräften, da sie zum Unterschied von den Zerhackern mit Scheiben wesentlich robuster ausgebildet werden können. Dementsprechend sind die Messer für die Messerwellen einer besonders hohen Beanspruchung ausgesetzt, wodurch eine hohe Abnützung der Messer und auch auf Grund des zu zerkleinernden Stückgutes hohe unterschiedliche Beanspruchungen auftreten. Den Nachteil der sich unterschiedlich abnützenden Messer und der dadurch bedingten Unwucht kann durch die Verwendung von Einwegmessern behoben werden.
