Process for the progressive precision winding of yarns or tapes, which are fed into the winding device continuously at constant speed, whilst the surface speed of the receiving package also remains constant. The process is characterised in that the change in the winding ratio from one step of the precision winding to the next is so small that the resulting change in the take-up speed of the yarn or tape does not exceed 3% or preferably 0.3% of the average take-up speed.
