The mercerising liquor contains polyalkylene glycols and/or polyethylene glycol mono(C1-C4)alkyl ethers and the sheetlike textile material padded therewith is immediately thereafter dried at elevated temperature with tension and then finished in a conventional manner. This gives a product of excellent appearance and also avoids any shrinkage of the textile material.

Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein kontinuierliches Verfahren zum Mercerisieren von flächenförmigen Baumwoll- und Baumwollmischartikeln, wobei der Mercerisierlauge Polyalkylenglykole und bzw. oder Polyäthylenglykolmono(C 1 bis C 4)alkyläther zugesetzt werden und das damit foulardierte flächenförmige Textilmaterial unmittelbar anschließend bei erhöhter Temperatur unter Spannung getrocknet und dann in üblicher Weise fertiggestellt wird. Es resultiert ein hervorragendes Warenbild und außerdem wird eine Schrumpfung des behandelten Textilmaterials vermieden.
