Device for cutting logs or the like into lengths, adapted to receive a motor saw with a cutting element motorized by a built-in motor located in a housing and consisting of a log-supporting stand comprising a cradle for receiving the log to be cut and provided at one of its ends with a structure for the attachment of the motor saw ensuring its mobility on the cutting plane, said device being characterized in that the structure (3) for the attachment of the motor saw (2) consists of a vertical guide pillar (17, 30) and a traveller (18, 31) mounted so as to be movable in vertical displacement on the guide pillar (17, 30) and comprising assembling means for stiffening said traveller with the housing (52) of the motor saw while keeping the cutting element (50) oriented horizontally, or substantially horizontally, and in that the cradle (5) for receiving the log (4) to be cut consists of a sloped frame (7) provided with abutments (11) for retaining the log and disposed in such a way that their bearing surface for the log is slightly offset, with respect to a plane containing the front face (55) of the housing (52), toward the front of this plane in the direction of the cutting element (50).
