Device for bundling a plurality of newspapers and/or magazines laid on top of each other, with a quadrangular box-shaped newspaper container (1) which is open at least at the top and the base (2) of which rests on feet-like supports (3), the base (2) being provided with a cord guide channel (4) which leads from the middle of one longitudinal side to the middle of the opposite longitudinal side and which is open both at its two ends as well as at the top, i.e. through the base (2), and with a cord guide rod (6) which at one end is formed as a manual operating handle (7) and at the other end has a slot (9) for receiving a cord end (10), characterised in that the cord guide channel (4) has a longitudinal slot (5) on at least one of its two sides and in that the cord guide rod (6) is mounted in suspended fashion in a bearing (13) and is pivotable horizontally in its middle region underneath the longitudinal median axis of the base (2) in the vicinity of a transverse side of the container, the inner part of the cord guide rod (6), which is provided with a slot (9) for receiving the cord end (10), is guided in the longitudinal side slot (5) of the cord guide channel (4) so that this cord end (10) can be guided from one longitudinal side of the container, through the cord guide channel (4), to the other longitudinal side of the container by pivoting the cord guide rod (6).
