A tool comprising a support rail (14) and two tool jaws (10, 12) for engaging on a workpiece, said jaws being located with the support rail (14) in a common plane, the first tool jaw (10) being displaceable along the support rail (14) due to a guide opening (18) and securable in position on said support rail by canting to engage said rail with its opening's edges, whereas the second tool jaw (12) is movable alternatingly backwards and forward towards said first tool jaw (10) by means of an actuating device (50), characterized in that for successive working of workpieces in consecutive steps of operation at least one of the tool jaws (10, 12) is provided with a working element (84, 86) and self-acting adjusting means (94) engaging on the first tool jaw (10) are provided for displacing the first tool jaw (10) in the direction of the second tool jaw (12) during the backward motion of the latter.
