A rail vehicle, particularly a metropolitain railway carriage, which substantially comprises a traction bogie (1) which is fitted with a drive motor and axle gearing and is disposed in the region of a head part (2a) of the vehicle (2), a trailing bogie (8) with wheels of considerably smaller diameter, and a floor which is formed from a floor section (3a) extending above the traction bogie (1) and a floor part (3) connected thereto and sunk at the height of one step and which is accessible by one step by means of side doors (5) disposed in the region of the sunken floor part (3), the parts of the electrical equipment (4) which are effecting the adhesion weight of the vehicle (2) being arranged in the region of the traction bogie (1), characterised in that the traction bogie (1) and a second traction bogie (1) which is provided in the region of the other head part (2a) of the vehicle (2) are arranged at the greatest possible distance from one another, the sunken floor part (3) extends from the floor section (3a) limited to the region of the longitudinal extension of one traction bogie (1) at a constant height to a second weighted floor section (3a) formed in the region of the second traction bogie (1) corresponding to the floor section (3a) above the first traction bogie, said sunken floor part (3) has an articulation (7) at its transverse centre for connecting the vehicle halves (2b, 2c), the trailing bogie (8) being arranged adjacent the articulation (7) beneath one vehicle half (2b).
