A cash tray (10) for cash registers (12), comprising : a box-shaped casing (18) ; a drawer (42) movably guided in said casing, the front side (47) of said drawer closing said casing when said drawer is in its pushed-in position ; a locking means (50) for locking said drawer (42) in its pushed-in position ; and an opening means (52, 54) for releasing said locking means (50) and for automatically pushing out said drawer (42), characterized in that a part of the casing top face (26) directly adjacent to the open side of said casing is formed by a sliding cover (28), said sliding cover being movably guided parallel to the direction of movement of said drawer (42) and being coupled with said drawer such that the opening and closing movement of said sliding cover is effected simultaneously but counter-currently to the movement (A) of said drawer (42).
