Apparatus for oiling striplike or platelike sheet metal elements comprising a plurality of nozzles (4), which are spaced apart transversely to the direction of travel of the sheet metal elements and are connected to the discharge lines of piston pumps (6), which are adapted to be driven, characterized in that at least two oil reservoirs (10, 11) are provided, each of which is provided with a heater (15) and with a conveying pump (12), the piston pumps (6) are adapted to be driven in dependence on the velocity of travel of the sheet metal elements and have suction lines (9) which are adapted to be selectively connected by means of a directional valve (8) to one of the conveying pumps (12), and that conveying pump or pumps (12) which is or are disconnected from the piston pumps (6) at a time is or are connected by means of the directional valve to a return conduit (14) leading to the associated oil reservoir (10, 11).
