[origin: US4416298A] A hair curler for rolling up the hair having a cylindrical rod body containing a catalytic heating device. The rod body is permanently affixed on a handle which is designed as a fuel tank. A thermostatically controlled valve device, between the fuel tank and the rod body, regulates the fuel supply from the fuel tank to the catalytic heating device. An opening allows air to enter the chamber which contains the catalyst. An ignition device is situated at the free end of the cylindrical rod body. The ignition device is activated by means of an operating key which closes an electrical circuit, to heat an incandescent filament, and thus to initiate catalytic combustion at the catalyst. A chamber is situated between the battery and the combustion chamber. This chamber is flushed through by ambient air and inhibits heat flow. The electrical conductors of the ignition device are conducted through this chamber.

Haarwellgerät mit einem eine katalytische Heizeinrichtung (B) enthaltenden zylindrischen Stabkörper (56) zum Aufrollen der Haare, wobei der Stabkörper (56) an einem als Brennstofftank (54) ausgebildetem Griffteil fest angeordnet ist. Zum Zwecke der Regulierung der Brennstoffzufuhr vom Brennstofftank (54) zur katalytischen Heizeinrichtung (B) ist zwischen Brennstofftank (54) und Stabkörper (56) eine thermostatisch gesteuerte Ventileinrichtung (51, 52, 53, 55, 101 bis 108) vorgesehen und außerdem eine Öffnung (L) für den Eintritt der Luft in die Brennkammer (B), ie den Katalysator (77) enthält. Am freien Ende des zylindrischen Stabkörpers (56) ist eine Zündeinrichtung (Z) angeordnet, die mit Hilfe einer Bedientaste (59) betätigbar ist, die einen elektrischen Stromkreis schließt, so daß ein Glühfaden (60) erhitzt wird, der die katalytische Verbrennung am Katalysator (77) in Gang setzt. Zwischen der Batteriekammer (96) und dem Brennraum (93) ist eine den Wärmefluß dämmende, von der Umgebungsluft durchflutete Kammer (109) angeordnet, durch die die Stromleiter (61, 63) der Zündeinrichtung (Z) hindurchgeführt sind.
