[origin: WO8103470A1] For measuring an object which is in relative movement with another object there is used a signal-controlled dispensing unit (10) having a nozzle directed onto the object (6), the nozzle being arranged to dispense under high pressure a marking substance in the form of a blob which adheres to the object. The marking operation can be effected within 20 milliseconds of a dispensing signal being sent. The method can be applied, for example, in connection with railway equipment and devices, for clearly marking wheels, bearing boxes or the like exhibiting faults which are registered or detected by an indicating device. Alternatively, the method can be used to mark locations on foundation surfaces with great accuracy from a moving vehicle, e.g. locations on a rail, which locations can be utilized for exact length determinations, for example in respect of a track slewing machine adjusting the setting of a track. Instead of a colouring substance, the dispenser may be arranged to dispense some other kind of marking agent, for example a radio-active or light-emitting agent enabling automatic optical registration or sensing of the marked location to be made. The invention also relates to an arrangement for carrying out the method, which arrangement may be fixedly mounted or placed on a vehicle, such as a rail trolley.

Pour mesurer un objet qui est en mouvement par rapport a un autre objet on utilise une unite de distribution commandee par des signaux (10) ayant un ajutage dirige sur l'objet (6), l'ajutage etant concu pour distribuer sous haute pression une substance de marquage sous la forme d'une tache qui se colle sur l'objet. L'operation de marquage peut etre effectuee en 20 millisecondes. Le procede peut etre applique a l'equipement et a des dispositifs de chemin de fer, par exemple pour marquer clairement des roues, des paliers ou autres qui presentent des defaillances enregistrees ou detectees par un dispositif d'indication. Alternativement, le procede peut etre utilise pour marquer des points de repere sur des surfaces de fondation avec une grande precision depuis un vehicule mobile, p.ex. des points de repere sur un rail lesquels peuvent etre utilises pour determiner des longueurs exactes, par exemple dans une machine de pose d'une voie ferree pour effectuer le reglage et l'inclinaison de la voie. Au lieu d'une substance colorante, le distributeur peut etre concu pour envoyer tout autre type d'agent de marquage, par exemple un agent radioactif ou un agent d'emission de lumiere permettant un enregistrement ou une detection optique automatique du reperage. L'invention concerne aussi un dispositif pour mettre en oeuvre le procede, lequel dispositif peut etre monte de maniere fixe ou place sur un vehicule tel qu'un chariot de voie ferree.
