Photographic recording material comprising at least one light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer E which is optionally divided into several component layers and is enclosed by associated layers K which contain colour couplers and do not contain any light-sensitive silver halide or only silver halide of such low sensitivity that it does not record any image under customary conditions, characterised in that either a) layer E does not contain any colour coupler, is at most 2.0 mu m thick and has a packing density of at least 1.5, or b) layer E contains a colour coupler, is at most 3.5 mu m thick and has a packing density of at least 0.7.
