A method of operating refrigerated display cabinets having a thermostat which is provided with a temperature sensor and which serves to detect the temperature prevailing within the refrigerated display cabinet, characterised in that, during sales periods, the temperature sensor is electrically heated in order to simulate a higher temperature and the thermostat is adjusted in such a way that, when the temperature sensor is heated, the desired temperature is maintained in the goods compartment ; and that outside of sales periods, the temperature sensor is not heated.
