[origin: WO8202066A1] A method of producing strip lace fabric comprising knitting a sheet of fabric composed of individual strips joined edge to edge by at least one wale of frangible yarn (31) and during knitting, laying in a purl forming thread (18) along at least one edge of each strip (11) so as to produce at least one edge having purls (20) projecting therefrom, the purl forming thread (18) being laid-in during each purl forming course across at least the first two wales (14a, 14b) adjacent said edge so that the underlaps of said wales tightly grip the purl forming thread (18), said wales and purl forming thread being joined together to form a composite edge formation which is resistive to elongation and subsequent to knitting of the sheet, separating the individual strips of lace from one another.
