Equipment for turning lengths of bar (3) and transferring them from a discharge roller bed (2, 2') of a continuous casting installation to an adjacent cooling bed (21), which equipment consists of a transfer carriage (4), displaceable transversely of the direction of travel of the bar, and of a turning mechanism (15, 17, 35), which turns the lengths of bar (3), by means of the swivel arm (15, 35) along a stationary guide (17) which is curved through roughly a quarter circle, characterized in that the transfer carriage (4) pushes the lengths of bar (3, 30) directly from the discharge roller bed (2, 2') on to a chute (18, 32), which is arranged at the side of the discharge roller bed (2, 2') and which guides the lengths of bar (3, 30) to the turning mechanism (15, 17, 35), and in that the swivel arm (15, 35) associated with the turning mechanism (15, 17, 35) lifts the lengths of bar (3, 30), disposed in an intermediate position on the chute (18, 32), on a time-staggered basis.
