[origin: WO8202168A1] An apparatus (10) for making stable blocks (20) from organic material (26) includes means (12) for tearing the materials into fragments of predetermined size, and means (18) for forcing the fragments through a high resistance die (36) at pressures and temperatures for forming particles or fragments into a stable block without the addition of adhesives. The dies (36) are coated with material (52) such as a matrix of tungsten carbide in a nickel alloy for controlling die resistance and to increase die life.
