Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0068075A2] The process is carried out in an installation equipped with separate inputs for solids and liquids, in which the liquid is supplied via a filter to a waste liquid vessel, and the dried solids are supplied to a solids vessel. Installations of this type are to be used, in particular, in hospitals and university clinics. The reduction in volume is of special economic importance in view of the cost of intermediate or final storage of this waste, which depends essentially on the volume. The essential aim of the invention is to specify a process permitting a particularly compact construction of such an installation. It is provided that the solids are led to a crusher, and after passing through the latter the already dry material is separated from the process and fed to the solids vessel, while the damp material is dried in a purging and drying system and then likewise fed to the solids vessel. The dampness discharged with the hot air is condensed, and the condensate is led to the waste liquid vessel. The material fed to the solids vessel is compacted by a pressing device, preferably in conjunction with the addition of a bonding agent. By separating the crushed and already dried solids from the crushed damp solids, it is possible for the installation as such to have substantially smaller dimensions, since it need not account for the entire volume of the solids for the rest of the passage. <IMAGE>
