[origin: WO8300209A1] The incandescent firing head (1) is used for intermittently introducing solid combustible materials by means of compressed air. Inside the firing head an explosion occurs which propulses the granular solid combustible material, particularly coal, into the combustion chamber of the furnace. The firing head comprises a cylindrical body (3, 4) closed at one of its ends by a plate (10) provided with outlet openings (11, 12). By means of interleaving pieces (27, 28) the size of the outlet opening may be adapted to the different conditions of the furnace.
