[origin: EP0068543A2] Two-step process for the preparation of a hydrocarbon mixture with a desired RCT and a desired initial boiling point (T1) from an asphaltenes-containing hydrocarbon mixture with a higher RCT by hydrotreating the latter under such conditions that the C4<-> production per % RCT reduction (G) ist between 1.5 x Gc and 2.0 x Gc (Gc being the virtually constant G under less severe conditions), distilling off components boiling below T1 from the product obtained, and deasphalting the residue thus obtained to such an extent that the desired RCT is achieved.
