[origin: US4455708A] A door closer comprising at the end of one of two pivotally interconnected arms a closing device whose housing encloses a cylindrical piston driven by the arm through a rack-and-pinion system. On each side of this piston a return spring and a bag, filled with an incompressible but deformable viscous gum placed in a hollow piston biased elastically toward the cylindrical piston are placed on each side of the first-mentioned piston. The hollow piston has a diameter distinctly larger than the diameter of the first-mentioned piston, and the combined actions of this difference in diameters and of the viscosity of the gum ensure an effective braking of the return of the first-mentioned piston.

Ce ferme-porte comport a l'extrémité de l'un des bras articulés un dispositif de fermeture dont le boîtier (10) enferme un piston cylindrique (16) entraîné par le bras, par l'intermédiaire d'un système pignon (12)-crémaillère (14), et de part et d'autre de ce piston, un ressort de rappel (22) et une vessie (44) remplie d'une gomme visqueuse incompressible mais déformable, et placée dans un piston creux (30) rappelé élastiquement en direction du piston cylindrique (16). Le piston creux a un diamêtre nettement supérieur a celui du piston cylindrique (16) et les actions combinées de cette différence de diamètres et de la viscosité de la gomme assurent un freinage efficace du retour du piston principal (16).
