[origin: US4500219A] A paper guiding device and operating method for use in an office writing machine, the device including a platen carried by a shaft and constituting a paper support, the platen shaft and platen being rotatable in a first direction for insertion of a paper sheet in the machine and in a second direction opposite to the first direction, a paper holding rail disposed adjacent the platen and carrying a plurality of pressure rollers which are pressed toward the platen, a rocker member supporting the rail and mounted to undergo pivotal movement about the axis of rotation of the platen shaft between a paper insertion position and a normal printing position; and a coupling member coupling the rocker member and platen such that rotation of the platen in the second direction effects pivotal movement of the rocker member into the paper insertion position for insertion of the leading edge of a paper sheet between the rollers and the platen and rotation of the platen in the first direction effects pivotal movement of the rocker member into the normal printing position, with simultaneous transport of the paper sheet, while the rollers maintain the sheet flat against the platen, the normal printing position being sufficiently remote from the printing line to assure that the printed characters will not be smeared upon contact with the rollers.

Papierführungsvorrichtungen für Schreib- oder ähnliche Büromaschinen sollen einen geraden Einzug eines neuen Blattes und einen sicheren Auslauf derselben in die Ablage gewährleisten. Hierbei soll der Blattanfang sicher unter die Papierandruckrollen gelangen, ohne daß die Bedienungsperson die Blätter berühren muß. Die Oberfläche des Blattes soll während des Durchlaufs einen konstanten Abstand zum Druckkopf aufweisen, was insbesondere bei Tintenspritz-Druckwerken sehr wesentlich ist. Erfindungsgemäß wird dieses dadurch gewährleistet, daß die Schwinge (19) mit der die Andruckrollen (23) tragenden Papierhalteschiene (21) um die Papierwalzenachse (3) schwenkbar angeordnet und über ein Antriebselement von der Papierwalze (1) derart antreibbar ist, daß die Schwinge (19) bei Drehung der Papierwalze (1) gegen die Papiereinzugsrichtung in Richtung einer Papieraufnahmeposition (III) und bei Drehung der Papierwalze in Papiereinzugsrichtung in die normale Schreibposition (I) schwenkbar ist. Das Verschwenken der Schwinge (19) mit den Andruckrollen (23) um die Papierwalzenachse (3) aus der Papieraufnahme und dann über eine erste in die normale Schreibposition gewährleistet einen sicheren Einsatz des Papiers und einen konstanten Abstand der Oberfläche des Papierblattes zu dem Schreibkopf. Hierbei werden saubere Schrift- und Faksimile-Aufzeichnungen selbst bei langsam trocknenden Tinten erzielt.
