Precision grinding machine, more particularly a projection contour grinding machine, having a grinding wheel (7) which machines a workpiece, a dresser body (26), which is provided with at least one profiled groove, which groove extends tangentially with respect to the grinding wheel and is open in the direction towards the grinding wheel, the surface of the said groove being formed as a grinding surface, and the cross-section thereof complementing the required grinding wheel profile, and a numerical control for controlling the relative movement of the grinding wheel and the workpiece and for the automatic dressing of the grinding wheel by means of the dresser body, characterised in that for dressing the grinding wheel (7), the dresser body (26) can be advanced in the plane of the grinding wheel (7) towards the grinding wheel (7), the advance movement of the dresser body can be controlled by means of the numerical control (22), and the numerical control (22) alters the distance between the grinding wheel (7) and the workpiece (11) to be machined according to the respective position of the dresser body (26) relative to the grinding wheel (7).
