Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Abschalten des Standby-Betriebs eines Fernsehempfängers mit einem im Gerät angeordneten Mikroprozessor (3). Der Mikroprozessor (3) wird dabei als Zeitschaltuhr geschaltet, so dass der Empfänger nach einer vorher definierten Zeit des Standby-Betriebs völlig abgeschaltet wird. Hierzu schaltet der Mikroprozessor (3) über einen Verstärker (7) die Auslösewicklung eines Netzschalters (5) ein, worauf dieser in seine Aus-Stellung zurückfällt und das Schaltnetzteil (1) vom Netz (U∼) trennt.
