[origin: EP0077419A2] With the increasing use of bar codes to mark products in self-service cash and carry warehouses, it will become expedient to fit optical code readers into the check-out positions to simplify the task of the cashier and to provide instantaneous stocktaking data. The check-out installation can be adapted to take an optical code reader at any time after installation. The check-out consists of two short conveyor belts (3,5) mounted in metal trunking (2,4) on top of pedestals (8,6). If the reader is not required, the two trunking sections fit together, but can be easily separated to install a reader tray (22,23). The cashier ensures that the purchases placed on the first belt (3) are correctly aligned as they pass over the reader on to the second belt (5).
