Abstract (en)

[origin: JPS5867647A] PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a synthetic raw material for malonic acid, barbituric acid, medicines, agricultural chemicals, etc. industrially and advantageously, by reacting ketene with CO and a nitrous ester in the homogeneous liquid phase in an organic solvent in the presence of a complex catalyst having a specific composition. CONSTITUTION:Ketene is reacted with carbon monoxide and a nitrous ester in the homogeneous liquid phase in an organic solvent in the presence of a platinum group metallic complex of the formula L2MX2 (L is a ligand consisting of an organophosphorus compound or organic arsenic compound; M is a platinum group element ion; X is halogen or acetic acid ion), e.g. bistriphenylphosphine dichloropalladium, to give a malonic diester. Preferably, a compound containing a basic nitrogen, e.g. an amide or amine, and/or a halide of a metallic element, e.g. Ge or Sn, is present in the reaction system. EFFECT:Improved catalytic stability and yield. USE:A raw material for barbituric acid.
