[origin: EP0077694A2] The invention relates to luminous displays in which the displaying of variable information appears on a medium through the selective and/or combined powering of light-emitting diodes D arranged in a matrix Mm,n on the said medium. The subject of the invention is an electronic method for luminous displaying of the variable information, notable in that it consists in making the characters of the information move from right to left over the length of the rows of the matrix Mm,n whilst effecting a selective powering, repeated successively column by column, of the diodes D. The subject of the invention is also the electronic device intended to implement such a method and in which the medium is made up by juxtaposing n/8 boards of diodes (D) arranged in matrices M'7,8. Each of these boards comprises seven shift registers (R1, R2,...R7), one per row, each of the seven inputs (E1, E2,...E7) of which receives the same signal which validated the corresponding row of the first column of the preceding board, and of which the eight outputs (S1, S2,...S8) of each are connected successively to the diodes forming the eight matrix elements of the row which is appointed to it. <IMAGE>
