Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0078529A1] 1. A lubricating arrangement for an internal combustion engine serving to ensure the latter's lubrication even if it is in a heavily inclined position, the engine's oil sump having at least two compartments, a primary one and a secondary one, in tandem arrangement along the longitudinal direction of the internal combustion engine, the primary compartment (2) which in the engine's inclined position is the upper one being connected to the suction side of a pressure pump arranged to feed oil to the lubrication points of the internal combustion engine and the secondary compartment (3) which in the engine's inclined position is the lower one being connected by a feed duct (15) including an oil pump to the primary compartment, in which an aperture (7) serving to equalize the oil level is arranged between the two compartments, characterized in that a spring-biased flap (8) is arranged in the primary compartment (2) in front of the oil level-equalizing aperture (7), the spring biasing the flap in the opening direction, and in that any hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical or mechanical means in any case employed in running the internal combustion engine are used for automatically moving the flap in the closing direction.
