A push-button switch having stationary switch contacts (5) disposed in the bottom (2) of the switch housing (1), an actuating piston (9) which is provided with an external push-button (12), carries the movable switch contacts (26) and is guided for axial movement in the switch housing (1) against a restoring spring, and a detent device which acts between actuating piston (9) and switch housing (1) and consists of a coulisse guide and guide pin (23) and which holds the actuating piston (9) in a first switch position after a first actuation and releases it again for return to the position of rest on a following actuation, characterised in that the actuating piston (9) contains an inner cylindrical recess (40) in which circular surfaces (15, 16) situated opposite one another with slight spacing, comprise radially directed teeth (43, 44) of different heights which together form an encircling zig-zag-shaped coulisse guideway (19), and that a pin (21) which engages in the cylindrical recess (40) and is disposed centrally in the switch housing (1) carries the guide pin (23) which extends diametrically and is mounted for rotation but held against axial displacement and the ends of which engage in the coulisse guideway (19).
