[origin: US4553847A] The quality of a product, for example the degree of filling of cigarette papers, is non-destructively tested using reflectivity measurement. Compensation is provided for the effects of stray light in the measuring zone and the signals commensurate with the measurements performed on individual units of the object being tested are compared with the average of signals obtained through measurements performed on a preselected number of units of acceptable quality. The state of operability of the test apparatus may be self-checked during incremental periods between the testing of units.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren und ein Gerät zum Prüfen des Füllungsgrades von Zigarettenenden mittels Reflexionslichtschranken (41), wobei eine Fremdlichtkompensation bezüglich des von der Reflexionslichtschranke (41) erzeugten Meßwertes bei jeder Messung, eine Selbstüberprüfung jeweils zwischen zwei Messungen unter Ausnutzung einer Grundreflexion und ferner eine Mittelwertbildung über die Meßwerte derjenigen Zigaretten (43) vorgenommen wird, die als gut erkannt werden. Der Mittelwert wird dann zur Bildung des Schwellwertes verwendet, den die Meßwerte überschreiten müßen, damit die Zigaretten (43) als gut erkannt werden. Es können sowohl Zigarettenblocks (44) als auch Einzelzigaretten (43) geprüft werden.
