Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0081755A2] The X-ray tube includes, within an evacuated tube envelope, a cathode, a rotatably mounted anode and circuitry connected to the anode and cathode for producing X-rays which are emitted through a window in the envelope. A variable speed drive is provided for rotating the anode and includes an internal rotor mounted within and adjacent a wall of the envelope, this rotor being mounted to rotate with the anode and including at least one permanent magnet having at least two poles. The drive also includes a stator positioned on the exterior of the tube envelope surrounding the rotor and winding to create a magnetic field driving the internal rotor. The tube envelope is pref. provided with ferrous segments which form a part of flux loops coupling the internal rotor with the external stator windings.
