A display device consists of a plurality of bistable, electromagnetically controlled display elements (1) arranged in matrix form in the form of rows and columns, each of the display elements (1) consisting of an armature comprising a polarisation magnet (11) attached symmetrically with respect to the axis of rotation. The display area of the armature is formed either by one or the other side of a triangular prism which can be rotated about its longitudinal axis. Each display element (1) exhibits a control magnet (3) which is attached perpendicularly to the display area and protrudes into the area of the axis of rotation of the armature. The display magnet is adjusted by the magnetic field of the control magnet (3). The control magnets (3) of a row or a column, respectively, are magnetised by a line-individual or, respectively, column-individual electromagnet (4), the electromagnets (4) of all rows or of all columns being mounted on a common carrier (5) and the carrier (5) being movable over the rear of the entire display panel in the direction of the row or of the column respectively. <IMAGE>

Eine Anzeigeeinrichtung besteht aus einer Vielzahl von in Form von Zeilen und Spalten matrixförmig angeordneten, bistabilen, elektromagnetisch gesteuerten Anzeigeelementen, (1) wobei jedes der Anzeigeelemente (1) aus einem Anker mit einem symmetrisch zur Drehachse angebrachten Polarisationsmagneten (11) besteht. Die Anzeigefläche des Ankers wird entweder von der einen oder von der anderen Seite eines um die Längsachse drehbaren Dreikantprismas gebildet. Jedes Anzeigeelement (1) weist einen Steuermagneten (3) auf, welcher senkrecht zur Anzeigefläche angebracht ist und in den Bereich der Drehachse des Ankers ragt. Durch das Magnetfeld des Steuermagneten (3) erfolgt die Einstellung des Anzeigemagneten. Die Magnetisierung der Steuermagnete (3) einer Zeile bzw. einer Spalte erfolgt durch einen zeilenindividuellen bzw. spaltenindividuellen Elektromagneten (4), wobei die Elektromagnete (4) aller Zeilen bzw. aller Spalten auf einem gemeinsamen Träger (5) befestigt sind und der Träger (5) in Richtung der Zeile bzw. der Spalte über die Rückseite des gesamten Anzeigefeldes bewegbar ist.
