According to the invention, operating faults in the quenching of crude gas from a coal gasification plant having a fly ash reactor with downward flow towards a water bath are prevented by two-stage quenching. In the first stage, the crude gas is here cooled to a temperature level below the slag softening point and above the dew point of the crude gas.

Nach der Erfindung werden Betriebsstörungen beim Quenchen von Rohgas aus einer Kohlevergasungsanlage mit einem nach unten gegen ein Wasserbad wirkenden Flugstaubreaktor durch zweistufiges Quenchen verhindert. In der ersten Stufe wird dabei das Rohgas auf ein Temperaturniveau unterhalb der Schlackeerweichung und oberhalb der Tautemperatur des Rohgases abgekühlt.
