[origin: US4508469A] A manhole structure comprising a circular frame formed with a pair of diametrically opposite inwardly and upwardly open recesses traversed by respective pivot pins and a further pair of diametrically opposite brackets having inwardly and upwardly open recesses. A pair of semicircular cover heads, each has three radially projecting lugs including a pivot lug engaging a respective one of the pins and a pair of support lugs at opposite ends of the rectilinear edge of the cover half. The pivot lug has a pocket receiving the pin and communicating with a narrow slot whereby the pivot lug is inserted over the pin, the pocket being shaped so that when the cover is swung open, it can be braced between the pin and an edge of the recess. All of the recesses have wedge-forming inclined flanks which engage inclined flanks of the cover halves to support the latter in their closed positions.

Ce regard comporte, articulés sur un cadre (2), deux demi-tampons (3a-3b) présentant, chacun, trois tenons radiaux, respectivement latéraux et postérieur, munis, à leur partie inférieure, de coins (9-12) aptes à reposer sur des faces de positionnement en V(10-13) réalisées dans des oreilles (7-8)du cadre (2). Dans le but de contrôler le mouvement d'ouverture et de fermeture des demi-tampons au moyen d'un mécanisme insensible à l'encrassement par de la terre ou autres déchets tout en donnant aux demi-tampons une bonne stabilité en position de fermeture, l'axe horizontal (14) d'articulation de chaque demi-tampon traverse l'oreille postérieure (7) dont il est solidaire, tandis que le tenon radial postérieur (4) est muni d'un logement interne (15) avec profil en came dont le profil est détermine afin, qu'en position de fermeture, l'axe horizontal (14) soit sans contact avec le logement (15), mais qu'en cours d'ouverture, il contrôle le mouvement de ce demi-tampon, d'abord seul, puis sur le reste du mouvement, en combinaison avec le bord postérieur du tampon venant en appui contre la paroi (22) et sur le fond de l'oreille (7).
